Australia absolutely thumped Sri Lanka tonight and am I the only person who found it to be a bit of a yawn-fest? I mean, this was the match trumpeted as “the World Cup final re-match,” but seriously, watching Australia win by 128 runs was about as exciting as watching paint dry… maybe even less so.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to turn into one of those media-types who seem to hate it every time Australia wins and seem to yearn for a string of defeats but, jeez louise, I sometimes wonder why the standard of world cricket isn’t better, especially from countries larger than Australia*?
It felt as though once Australia got a few wickets, the Sri Lankan’s just threw in the proverbial towel… and that was very disappointing to see.
(*Sri Lanka is about the same size as Australia, population-wise. But I am talking more about countries like India, the UK and even South Africa, which have vastly superior populations to pull champion cricketers from.)
